Out of Sight, Out of Mind

So let's talk about March- what a month it has been. There has been so much drama, so much fun, so much laughter, and unfortunately a few tears. Behind every maternity leave is a story, and often a challenge.  It can often feel 'out of sight, out of mind' for a woman. "Would this have happened if I hadn't gone on leave?" A question that has been on my mind just lately. Being a working mum is hard, in fact being a woman is hard in general.  I assume that we are all familiar with the words 'It's a man's world". I've always been quite a feminist myself. We live in changing times and it is okay to change routine every so often. Being a woman in this so- called man's world feels a lot like navigating through a minefield when it absolutely should not. In an ideal world working mums would not feel inferior, they would not feel limited, or need to tread carefully out of fear that they might hurt a few egos along the way.  This is undeniably a ...

Love yourself first, and everything else falls in line...

Self Love and Motherhood As I hurtle towards my thirties at an alarming pace, I've realised every one of us needs to show how much we care for each other and in the process, care for ourselves. Women are being divided up in the middle- you're either a woman who has a child, or not. When someone becomes a mum, we erase her identity, and as a mother it sure is easy to lose yourself. It almost feels like unless you're doing something for your child, you are no longer valued as a person. You're not the friend you once were, you're not the employee you once were, you're not as good as you used to be, because you have a child. But that couldn't be further from the truth.   Self love is a mother's secret weapon.  It was towards the end of 2019 when I really started suffering with my anxiety. In 2020, things just got worse and worse. Lockdowns, and COVID, really bought out the worst in people, and I just became too scared to leave the house. It wasn't becau...

It's been one heck of a week- life at 100mph

I first started this blog after speaking to one of my lovely friends. I love writing and she suggested I start blogging. After my first couple of posts I was surprised to find it almost therapeutic, which wasn't what I expected!  So what's been happening in 'Lindsay's world' this week? It has been such a busy few days. Aside from reaching breaking point listening to the barking dog next door, I have loved the last few days. But seriously- I have actually reached the point of tears having to hear the dog bark. I don't know what's worse.... snoring or barking? Both make me want to rip my ears off.  Anyway, that is probably the only negative I have this week! The kids and I have enjoyed the school holidays and celebrating Piper's 6th birthday, as well as my sister's gender reveal. The week has just flown!  Sometimes it's scary how fast time flies.  Piper had a princess pamper for her birthday and it was an amazing day for her. It was her first time ...

Love is in the air!

It's valentines day, so it only seems fitting I do a post all about love, my engagement, and wedding plans! It's a day to celebrate the love between friends, the love from my children, and of course the love from my fiancĂ©, Josh. Although when I got up this morning I caught him quickly writing on a card to me- who says romance is dead eh!? Where it all began So before I go into the proposal I need to set a background on where mine and Josh's story began. I first met Josh on a night out back in 2012, whilst I was home from Uni on the summer break. I suppose you could call it a summer of love. I never expected it to go any further than a summer romance.  I first saw Josh in a club called 'Liquid' looking as miserable as ever. A few days later, we went on a 'mate date' to the cinema. There were 3 of us so it was hardly anything romantic- and I wasn't looking for anything romantic either. Our first proper date was to the cinema to see Batman The Dark Knight....

Worrying is like walking around with an umbrella, waiting for it to rain

It's been another hectic weekend with my family, but they are the weekends I love the most!  I was able to have a lovely evening with the fiancĂ©, and a full night of sleep thanks to my amazing sister for having the kids.  At the moment I find a lot of my time is spent worrying about anything and everything... well I say at the moment but worry seems to be a recurrent factor of my life. I'm always waiting for disaster to strike, worrying about things such as health, money, family, other people's judgment.  Being an adult is exhausting, there's always something to do, and something to worry about. At the moment I'm worrying about the simplest of things that wouldn't even phase most people. Social events, driving, and certain people are all triggers for me when it comes to overthinking and worry. I think I'm becoming less of a 'people person' as my tolerance levels for people seems to be getting lower and lower.  Sounds miserable right? In a world where...

The Art of Friendships and Family relationships

I have always believed that you get out of a relationship what you put into it. Relationships do take effort, especially as you get older and your own family becomes a priority. The enjoyment and comfort that friendships and relationships can provide, make the investment worthwhile.  The subject of friendships and family relationships has really been on my mind since I started planning a wedding, and also since I gave birth to my third child and tried to maintain a social life. Who are the friends and family members who truly value me? Who would be there for me if I needed them? Who actually cares about my life and will support me through my struggles? These are all questions I ask myself when I think abut who is a true friend.  Wedding guest lists are not easy let me tell you! This is the time for me to put relationships into perspective! We all strive to form friendships, and in a perfect world, family would all get along with each other. We all like to feel understood and l...

It's a Mother- full Life!

I love being a mum. It's my favourite job in the world.  It's probably the only job where you can feel everything all at once- love, frustration, impatience, pride, sadness, happiness... the list goes on! My 3 children are my absolute world. Motherhood is hard, hilarious, and worth every second! Where it all started.... My life hasn't been the typical boy meets girl, they get married, have babies, and live happily ever after. Although I hope that I am now getting my happy ending, the early days were difficult. I was 22 when I had my little boy Finley, and I had just finished university and started a job in a law firm. It was certainly a shock, but I knew it was what I wanted. If I could give myself any advice back then, it would be to not care so much about what other people think and to just focus on my own happiness. It's a fact that people thought my life was over, but my life had really only just begun! I certainly proved everybody wrong and I started my legal pract...
